English-language Worship Services

English-language Worship Services
Sundays at 9:00 a.m.

Weekly services in English began at the Otawara Christian Church in August 2019. The basic format is a mix of traditional and contemporary worship elements, so that Christians of all backgrounds will find something familiar: we start and finish with a traditional hymn, sing several contemporary praise hymns before the sermon (which is based on a specific scripture in the Bible), and we make time for those who would like to give an offering. Prayers punctuate the beginning, middle and end of the service. Our services last about an hour.

Whether you have tried attending Japanese-language services but found the language barrier overwhelming, have just been looking for a church in this part of Japan, or are seeking God and looking for guidance, our English-language services may be the answer. We are a very international group united by our desire to worship God in English. It’s an easy service to visit since everyone here is still ‘new.’

We hope you will join us!

Guidelines for Worship Services via Zoom

For those who feel unable to attend our services in person, including those who need to be especially careful about the coronavirus, the Otawara Christian Church’s English-language Worship Congregation is conducting its services via the Zoom video meeting application.
We do not know how long we will offer this worship format, but we have put down in writing some guidelines for corporate worship in our private homes, and ask you to please refer to them.

  1. The worship service via Zoom starts at 9:00 a.m. Please prepare to make your connection to join the meeting 10 minutes early at 8:50 a.m. so that the service can begin at 9:00 a.m. with all connection issues solved.
  2. Connect to Zoom and input the meeting ID and the password.
  3. We have signed up for unlimited meeting time, so the service will continue without interruption until its conclusion.
  4. The time schedule for the service is;
    8:50 a.m. Connect to the meeting via Zoom and fellowship with each other.
    9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Worship Service (hymn & praise song singing, prayers, Bible passage reading, message, offertory prayer and benediction; on the first Sunday of the month we conduct a Holy Communion for those in the worship hall).
    10:00 a.m. Announcements and Fellowship
  5. Consecrate your bodies to God in the same way at home as you do when you attend services at church. Let’s become aware of focusing on our Lord in the same way we do in church
  6. Although we cannot unite as a congregation via Zoom in the same way as we do at church, as much as possible let us unite our hearts together in prayerful worship.
  7. If you wish to give an offering, put it in an envelope and keep it safe until you are able to attend services. If you would prefer to give your offering by postal deposit, please let us know.
